Blossom NHK drama follows life of writer Uno Chiyo

The NHK morning drama series ‘Blossom’ follows the life of Tamae Hayano, a character modeled after the writer Uno Chiyo, as she navigates the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras. The story depicts her journey of finding happiness amidst various hardships, including the Great Kanto Earthquake and war.

In recent episodes, the plot focuses on Tamae’s difficult marriage. After her father, Seiji, arranges a marriage for her, Tamae finds her new husband shows no interest in her, leading her to flee the household. Meanwhile, Seiji’s health begins to decline.

Actress Maho Yamada, who plays Tamae’s aunt Teruko, described her character as a person who ‘blossoms’ through her unwavering self-belief and energetic personality. The series highlights how different characters maintain their own unique worldviews while facing life's challenges.
