BLS completes modernization of Kandersteg station
The BLS railway company has completed a major modernization project at Kandersteg station. The investment, totaling approximately 26 million Swiss francs, focused on renewing track systems, railway technology, platform furniture, and customer information systems.
A key feature of the upgrade is the installation of raised platforms, which allow for barrier-free, level access to trains. Additionally, the historic station building has undergone renovation. While some work on the building is complete, final finishing touches are expected to continue through December 2026, with an additional 8.9 million francs allocated for these efforts.
The renovation includes the creation of a new guest center on the ground floor, housing both the BLS travel center and the Kandersteg Tourist Center. The project also integrated a passenger lift to ensure accessibility. Future plans for the station include a restaurant and office space for car transport services on the platform level, as well as accommodation facilities on the upper floor.
