Blue Cross upgrades medical plans amid rising Hong Kong healthcare costs

Blue Cross (Asia-Pacific) Insurance Limited has launched an upgraded version of its Caring Medical Protection Plus plan. The move comes as Hong Kong faces rising healthcare costs, with the medical trend rate projected to reach 10.5% this year. Research from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University indicates that average group medical insurance premiums per employee are expected to exceed HK$10,000.

The upgraded plan is designed for existing group medical insurance members, allowing employees to extend coverage to spouses and children and maintain protection during job changes or retirement. In addition to basic hospital and surgical benefits, the plan includes optional benefits for outpatient care, dental, and supplementary medical needs, such as Chinese medicine and physiotherapy. Reimbursement for these optional benefits is set at 80%.

Blue Cross is also expanding its healthcare network within the Greater Bay Area, partnering with institutions such as United Family Healthcare and the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre.
