Blue House clarifies President Lee’s DMZ landmine remarks
Blue House Senior Secretary for Public Communication Seong Ki-hong addressed the controversy surrounding President Lee Jae-myung’s description of a recent DMZ landmine explosion as an ‘unforeseen accident.’ During a radio appearance, Seong clarified that the President’s phrasing was intended to provide comfort to the injured service members and their families rather than to absolve North Korea of responsibility.
Seong emphasized that the administration remains committed to taking strict measures based on thorough investigation results. He also noted the President’s stance on providing special compensation to those who have made significant sacrifices for the nation.
Additionally, Seong addressed other administrative matters, including clarifying that there is no formal commitment regarding South Korean investment in Alaska LNG despite U.S. reports, and stating that upcoming appointments for key legal and police positions will proceed through official procedures in due course.
