Blue House denies cover-up in DMZ landmine explosion investigation

The Blue House has denied allegations of a cover-up regarding a recent landmine-related explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Responding to criticisms from opposition parties regarding delays in the investigation, a high-ranking official stated that the probe is being conducted “objectively, quickly, and thoroughly” in coordination with the United Nations Command.

The official explained that the investigation has been slowed by the high level of danger at the site. Unlike previous incidents that occurred on established routes, this explosion took place in an area where a new route was being developed, requiring a more cautious approach. The government emphasized that they are investigating all possibilities, including whether the mines were planted by North Korea.

The incident occurred on the morning of the 21st near the Military Demarcation Line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Two South Korean soldiers, including a search battalion commander, sustained serious injuries, while one other person was lightly injured during the two suspected landmine explosions.
