Blue Innovation drone technology enables safe sewer inspections in high-water environments

In Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, Eight Technology Co., Ltd. successfully demonstrated the use of the ELIOS 3 indoor inspection drone to conduct safety surveys in high-water-level sewer pipes. The drone, developed by Flyability, utilizes LiDAR for 3D mapping and allowed for the inspection of approximately 500 to 600 meters of pipe without requiring workers to enter the hazardous environment.

Traditional television camera vehicles struggled to navigate sections with high water levels and rapid flows. While the drone proved effective for safety and efficiency in these conditions, the demonstration identified operational challenges, such as limited flight time due to battery capacity and lens fogging in cold climates. Blue Innovation is promoting these “No Entry” sewer inspection DX solutions to improve infrastructure safety and sustainability.
