Blue Lake in Maramureș features unique color-changing waters
The Blue Lake (Lacul Albastru), located near Baia Sprie in the Maramureș region, is a natural monument formed following the collapse of old mining works on the Domnișoara vein between 1919 and 1920. Situated at an altitude of approximately 530 meters on the southern slope of Dealul Minei, the lake covers about half a hectare and reaches a depth of roughly four meters.
A protected natural area since 1977, the lake is notable for its changing water color, which shifts based on the season, light, and weather conditions. It represents a landscape where nature has reclaimed industrial scars left by historical mining activities.
