Blue Moon lights up skies in India and Pakistan

A rare “Blue Moon” – the second full moon in a calendar month – appeared on the night of 31 May 2026, visible across both India and Pakistan. In Indian cities such as Delhi, Ayodhya and elsewhere, skywatchers gathered to view the event, describing the moon as reddish‑orange and expressing happiness at the spectacle. In Pakistan, clear weather allowed observers in Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan and other cities to photograph the full moon. Astronomers clarified that the term “Blue Moon” does not describe the moon’s colour; the May 2026 occurrence was also a “micromoon”, meaning it was slightly smaller and dimmer because it was farther from Earth.

The phenomenon, which recurs only once every two to three years, sparked public interest and educational commentary in both countries.
