Blue Mountains travel facing significant delays
Transport for NSW is advising motorists to prepare for significant travel delays across the Blue Mountains and Central West regions. Piling works have commenced on Mitchell's Causeway, and the Great Western Highway remains closed at Victoria Pass, necessitating detours via Darling Causeway, Chifley Road, and Main Street in Lithgow. These detours may add up to an hour of travel time during peak periods.
Additional congestion is expected over the coming long weekend and the following week due to the Bathurst 1000 race. Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic and potential local road closures in Lithgow, Cowra, Blayney, and Bathurst on October 12 and 13 as spectators return home. Authorities recommend using main roads to keep local routes clear for residents and emergency services, and suggest considering alternative routes such as the Golden Highway or Hume Highway.
