Blue Origin targets $140 billion valuation amid commercial expansion
Blue Origin is transitioning from a project funded primarily by Jeff Bezos to a mature commercial enterprise. Since its founding in 2000, Bezos has invested approximately $30 billion of his personal fortune into the company. A recent funding round involving external investors, which includes a $2 billion commitment from Bezos, has raised the company's valuation to approximately $140 billion.
The company is targeting significant revenue growth, aiming to increase from $800 million in previous years to $1.4 billion this year, with a long-term goal of exceeding $30 billion in revenue by 2030. This growth strategy relies heavily on the development of the New Glenn reusable rocket to compete for satellite launches, government contracts, and lunar missions.
Blue Origin's profile has been bolstered by being awarded a NASA contract for one of three unmanned lunar missions. Despite recent setbacks, such as an incident during a New Glenn test that damaged launch facilities, the company is positioning itself as a major competitor in the private space race alongside SpaceX.
