Blue Ridge Parkway nears reopening following Hurricane Helene damage

The Blue Ridge Parkway is approaching full reopening, with only 11 miles remaining to be restored following catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The storm triggered an estimated 58 landslides, resulting in the closure of the entire 469-mile route.

Civil engineering efforts are underway to rebuild damaged infrastructure, including bridges and roads. Engineers from firms such as RK&K are working to ensure the new structures are resilient. The reconstruction process has highlighted a significant regional demand for highly skilled engineering roles to help stabilize and revitalize the local economy in the wake of the disaster.
