Blue Yonder’s End‑to‑End Supply Chain Claim Questioned After 30‑Year Industry Experience
In 1993 the author helped implement supply‑chain planning systems for Manugistics, focusing on demand, supply, and logistics planning. An attempt to create a true end‑to‑end planning process failed; the only link between tactical supply planning and transportation planning was order management, leaving most functions in separate silos.
Manugistics was acquired by JDA in 2006, and the combined business later became part of Blue Yonder. Blue Yonder now markets “frictionless outcomes” and promotes end‑to‑end supply‑chain management, but the author argues that such a comprehensive, seamless process does not exist in practice. Supply‑chain planning, execution, network design, and logistics remain disconnected, with integration limited to transactional systems like order‑to‑cash and procure‑to‑pay. The piece also notes the prevalence of AI buzzwords in the industry without delivering true end‑to‑end functionality.
