Bluecore Energy raises $50M for floating nuclear power systems

Bluecore Energy Inc., a California-based startup, has raised $50 million in seed funding to develop floating nuclear power plants. The investment, led by Silverton Partners, follows an initial $10 million pre-seed round.

The company aims to deploy compact, light-water reactors on barges to provide continuous 10-megawatt electrical output to locations with high energy demands, such as ports, AI data centers, coastal infrastructure, and remote islands. These units are designed to operate for several years between refueling cycles.

Bluecore is currently developing a non-fueled reactor module prototype at the Port of Long Beach to test monitoring and control systems. The company has also initiated formal regulatory engagement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard to coordinate design and safety requirements for maritime nuclear systems.
