Bluefields honors historian and musician Donovan Brautigam Beer

A posthumous tribute was held at the Carl Rigby Moses Afro-descendant Museum in Bluefields to honor the legacy of Donovan Brautigam Beer, a writer, historian, and musician. The event, attended by members of the Creole community and various regional representatives, recognized his contributions to researching and preserving the history of Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast.

During the ceremony, family members highlighted his specific research into the history of the Caribbean Coast, the Palo de Mayo tradition, and the arrival of Chinese immigrants to Nicaragua. A former student also spoke about his dedication to teaching music and singing at the former Instituto Colón in Bluefields.

The tribute included musical performances, poetry, and a reflection by the Bishop of the Moravian Church. To ensure his work reaches future generations, his family committed to donating some of his research, writings, and his biography to the museum.
