Blueprints AI launches platform to automate permit-ready construction drawings
Santa Monica-based startup Blueprints AI has unveiled the second generation of its AI-powered platform designed to automate the creation of permit-ready construction documents. Unveiled at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, the software can transform 2D sketches, photos, PDFs, or text descriptions into comprehensive drawing sets in minutes.
Co-founded by architect Al Dram and data scientist Coco Cao, the platform was trained on eight years of approved drawing sets to ensure compliance with local building codes. The second-generation product expands capabilities to include structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior design documents. The system features real-time code checking, where any design modification automatically updates the entire project set.
While the AI handles the drafting process—which co-founder Al Dram estimates consumes roughly 80% of an architect's time—licensed professionals are still required to review and seal all documents before permit submission. The company aims to reduce the time spent on repetitive drafting, allowing architects to focus more on design. In one instance, a residence in Chicago reportedly received permit approval in a single review cycle using the platform.
