Bluesky introduces opt-out for algorithmic recommendations

Bluesky has introduced a new account-level feature that allows users to opt out of algorithmic recommendations. This setting prevents a user's public posts from being surfaced to non-followers in the platform's Discover feed.

While the feature does not make an account private, it provides a way for users to limit their visibility to people outside their existing network. The company stated the update is intended for those who wish to communicate with their followers without the pressure of potentially going viral.

Technically, the preference is recorded at the AT Protocol account level. This means the setting can potentially travel with the user to third-party applications built on the same protocol, though those apps must choose to honor the signal. The change can take up to one hour to fully apply after being enabled in the Privacy and Security settings.
