Bluesky mobile active users decline by over 50% since 2024 peak
Bluesky is experiencing a significant decline in mobile app engagement following its surge in late 2024. Data from Similarweb indicates that the platform’s monthly active users dropped to 10.4 million in June 2026, a 27.2% decrease year-over-year. This represents a roughly 52% decline from its peak in the fourth quarter of 2024, when monthly active users reached approximately 22.1 million.
Daily active users also saw a year-over-year decline of 25.6% in July, falling to around 3 million. While the user base has shrunk, the remaining community shows high engagement, with a stickiness rate of approximately 29%, comparable to Meta’s Threads.
Despite the decline in app usage, CEO Toni Schneider has indicated that the company’s strategic focus extends beyond the standalone app. Bluesky is prioritizing the development of its underlying protocol, AT Proto, to enable various social applications and services to operate on its decentralized framework.
