US government launches AI chatbot as global AI infrastructure demand surges
The United States government has launched an official AI chatbot designed to modernize public administration. Utilizing Large Language Models (LLM) trained on official government data, the tool aims to provide citizens with faster, more transparent access to information regarding federal procedures, laws, and services.
Simultaneously, the global AI landscape is shifting from a focus on chip competition to a broader race for infrastructure. In South Korea, companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are expanding into high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and enterprise SSDs to meet the growing demand for AI servers. Akamai Technologies is also positioning itself to support this transition through distributed cloud and multi-layered security strategies to protect against AI-driven threats.
As AI demand scales, the physical requirements for power and land are increasing. In the United States, the expansion of massive data centers is transforming rural landscapes, including forests and agricultural land. This surge in energy consumption is driving new opportunities for power providers; for instance, Capital Power has secured a long-term agreement to provide electricity for Meta’s planned data center in Alberta, Canada.
