Blumenau experiences landslides and flooding following heavy rains

Heavy rainfall in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, has caused multiple emergencies, including landslides, fallen trees, and flooding. As of Monday afternoon, the Civil Defense reported 19 occurrences across 14 neighborhoods, with landslides making up nearly half of the incidents.

The Itajaí-Açu River has seen a significant rise in water levels, reaching 4.52 meters by 3:00 PM following a rapid increase throughout the day. Local authorities are monitoring the situation as rainfall totals in some areas, such as the Coripós station, reached over 94 mm.

In the Progresso neighborhood, a landslide partially blocked Rua Emílio Tallmann, requiring intervention from the Fire Department and Civil Defense to clear debris. No injuries or property damage to homes have been reported in that specific incident.
