BMKG targets global leadership in 2025–2029 strategic plan
The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) has outlined its Strategic Plan (Renstra) for 2025–2029, aiming to become a reliable and trusted global player in its field. During a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR RI), BMKG Secretary Guswanto stated that the agency's direction aligns with the national vision for 'Indonesia Emas 2045.' The plan focuses on supporting national priorities such as food, energy, and water sovereignty, as well as disaster resilience and climate-resilient development.
Separately, BMKG has issued a clarification regarding manipulated screenshots circulating on social media. The agency stated that images suggesting a lack of coordination between BMKG and the Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab) were edited to create a false impression of institutional misalignment. Guswanto clarified that BMKG's social media responses were directed at specific user inquiries regarding volcanic activity and were not official rebuttals to government posts. He emphasized the distinction in authority between BMKG, which monitors atmospheric volcanic ash and weather, and the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), which monitors internal volcanic activity and disaster status.
