BMO appoints Tim Cox as U.S. Country Head
BMO Financial Group has announced that Tim Cox will succeed Darrel Hackett as the U.S. Country Head, effective November 1, 2026. Cox, who currently serves as BMO’s U.S. General Counsel, will also become CEO of the bank’s U.S. subsidiaries, BMO Financial Corp. and BMO Bank N.A. In his new role, he will join the bank’s Executive Committee and chair the U.S. Management Committee, reporting directly to BMO Financial Group CEO Darryl White.
Darrel Hackett is retiring from his position as U.S. CEO after more than 22 years with the institution. He will transition into a new role as Executive Vice-Chair and Senior Advisor on November 1.
The leadership transition occurs as BMO continues its expansion in the United States, following its 2023 acquisition of Bank of the West. The bank has previously announced plans to open 130 branches in California and 15 in Arizona by 2031. As of July 31, 2026, BMO is the eighth-largest bank in North America by assets, totaling $1.5 trillion.
