BMT launches submarine training to support Canada’s future fleet
BMT has launched a specialized submarine training initiative in Canada to develop the technical and engineering expertise required for the nation’s future underwater capabilities. The program aims to prepare a workforce for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP), which seeks to replace the current Victoria-class fleet with up to 12 modern submarines.
The in-person course, led by BMT specialists, covers a wide array of disciplines including naval architecture, marine and mechanical engineering, electrical and systems engineering, software, cybersecurity, logistics, and project management. The initiative is designed to build awareness and interest among technical specialists, industry partners, and government organizations.
As much of Canada’s current submarine expertise is dedicated to supporting the existing Victoria-class fleet, the training program seeks to expand the pool of knowledge and industrial capacity necessary to acquire, operate, and maintain a larger, more modern fleet over several decades of service.
