BMW ALPINA confirms updated V8 for future 7 Series
BMW ALPINA has confirmed the development of a deeply recalibrated V8 engine for its upcoming ultra-luxury 7 Series flagship, internally designated as the G72. This model marks the first V8 powertrain under the brand’s new era as an independent luxury marque.
Positioned within the BMW Group hierarchy above standard BMW models but below Rolls-Royce, the G72 is intended to compete directly with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Rather than focusing on peak horsepower, ALPINA engineers are prioritizing a driving character defined by “exhilarating performance, delivered with supreme composure.”
The technical approach emphasizes low-end torque, immediate power delivery, and effortless cruising. While specific technical specifications have not been released, the engine is expected to be a biturbo gasoline unit, potentially featuring mild-hybrid assistance to smooth out performance rather than a full plug-in hybrid setup.
