BMW plans electric and gas M3 Touring for US and global markets

BMW is preparing a new M3 Touring that will be offered in both internal‑combustion and fully electric versions. The company’s M‑division says strong demand in the United States and China has prompted the revival of the performance estate, with sales boss Sylvia Neubauer noting that "The M3 Touring is one of the best models that we have in our portfolio" and that dealers are seeing "organic" demand for more units.

The electric M3 will be built on BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse platform and feature a quad‑motor powertrain with advanced torque‑vectoring, targeting a launch around 2027. Meanwhile, the next gasoline‑powered M3 Touring is expected no earlier than 2029, equipped with a mild‑hybrid S58 inline‑six delivering over 520 hp and styling from the Neue Klasse concept. The broader 3 Series Touring will also be produced in both gas (G51) and battery‑electric (NA1) forms, ensuring the M3 Touring can retain an ICE option.
