BMW approves development of new M3 Touring with 550+ hp

BMW management has approved the development of the next-generation M3 Touring, a high-performance station wagon expected to debut in late 2028 or early 2029. The vehicle will feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six engine (S58) capable of producing over 550 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive.

As part of a dual-track strategy, BMW will offer both internal combustion and fully electric versions. While plug-in hybrid technology is currently unlikely, the thermal version may utilize a 48V mild hybrid system to assist during acceleration without requiring external charging.

Design-wise, the new model will adopt the ‘Neue Klasse’ philosophy, potentially replacing the vertical kidney grille with a horizontal design. Other anticipated features include widened wheel arches, four exhaust outlets, and yellow headlights. The model is expected to be launched in the United States as well.
