BMW Art Cars Exhibition Brings All 20 Models to Munich

BMW has opened a free exhibition at its BMW Welt building in Munich that reunites all 20 of the brand’s Art Cars for the first time. The show runs from 29 July to 31 August 2026 and marks the 50‑year anniversary of the collection, which began in 1975 when pilot‑auctioneer Hervé Poulain and BMW Motorsport director Jochen Neerpasch commissioned Alexander Calder to paint a BMW 3.0 CSL for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The exhibition showcases works by artists such as Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Ernst Fuchs, Robert Rauschenberg, Jenny Holzer and, most recently, Julie Mehretu, whose 2024 design adorns a BMW M Hybrid V8. The event concludes the BMW Art Car World Tour, which visited more than 30 countries across five continents, and is accompanied by a city‑wide billboard campaign featuring photographs by René Staud.
