BMW celebrates 40 years of M3 and tests electric iM3 prototype

BMW recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the M3 at the BMW M Festival in Gdańsk, Poland. The event showcased six generations of the M3 model, ranging from the original E30 to the modern G80, highlighting the evolution of the vehicle's proportions, engines, and performance capabilities. The exhibition also featured experimental and racing variants, such as the E46 GTR and the E92 GT2.

In parallel with these celebrations, BMW is actively testing prototypes for a high-performance electric version of the M3, potentially designated as the iM3. Testing is currently underway at the Nürburgring to address the challenges of electric vehicle weight and sustained high-performance output.

Engineers aim to maintain the precision and handling characteristic of the M division through a quad-motor setup. This configuration could allow for individual torque vectoring for each wheel and potentially deliver up to 1,000 kW of power. The vehicle is expected to feature a 108 kWh battery capable of 400 kW fast charging.
