BMW has approved the production of a next‑generation M3 Touring, internally coded G88, slated for release in late 2028 or early 2029. The new wagon will join the forthcoming M3 sedan (G84) as part of the upcoming third‑generation 3 Series lineup. Reports indicate the model is expected to be offered in the United States, following the unexpected success of the larger M5 Touring in that market.

The powertrain is expected to feature a new 3.0‑liter twin‑turbo inline‑six paired with a mild‑hybrid system to meet Euro 7 emissions standards, rather than a full plug‑in hybrid.
