BMW confirms next‑generation M3 Touring for 2028‑29, likely US launch
BMW has approved the production of a next‑generation M3 Touring, internally coded G88, slated for release in late 2028 or early 2029. The new wagon will join the forthcoming M3 sedan (G84) as part of the upcoming third‑generation 3 Series lineup. Reports indicate the model is expected to be offered in the United States, following the unexpected success of the larger M5 Touring in that market.
The powertrain is expected to feature a new 3.0‑liter twin‑turbo inline‑six paired with a mild‑hybrid system to meet Euro 7 emissions standards, rather than a full plug‑in hybrid. BMW also plans a new 3 Series platform—G50 for the sedan and G51 for the touring variant—targeted for launch around 2026, with the sedan arriving in 2027 and the touring model a year later. The current M3 Touring (G81), introduced in 2022, has already proven popular in Europe, and BMW is reportedly considering a fully electric version of the future touring model as well.
