BMW considers new flagship X9 SUV for North American market
BMW is reportedly considering the development of a new flagship SUV positioned above the current X7 model. The vehicle is expected to target the North American market, where consumer demand for large SUVs and trucks remains high.
While no official announcement has been made, BMW holds the rights to the X9 nameplate and the XB9 moniker, which suggests the potential for a high-performance Alpina version. The new model would compete with established luxury vehicles such as the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the Audi Q9.
To avoid high tariffs, production could take place at BMW’s facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Regarding technical specifications, the company may utilize either the Neue Klasse electric platform or the existing Cluster Architecture (CLAR). The CLAR platform is considered a strong possibility due to its flexibility with various powertrain types.
