BMW Deploys Figure 03 Humanoid Robots at Spartanburg Plant
Humanoid‑robotics startup Figure AI announced that its fleet now outnumbers its human staff, with about 740 Figure robots compared with roughly 660 employees. CEO Brett Adcock highlighted the rapid growth, noting that the robots have been mass‑produced at the BotQ facility and have already completed a 200‑hour livestream sorting 250,000 packages without hardware failure.
BMW Group is now deploying the latest Figure 03 units at its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant. The robots handle logistics sequencing, picking parts from unsorted containers and loading them onto trolleys that feed the assembly line for models such as the X3 and upcoming iX5. They feature wireless charging, tactile hand sensors, palm‑mounted cameras and speech‑to‑speech communication, building on a prior pilot with Figure 02 that supported the production of more than 30,000 vehicles. BMW sees the application as scalable to other facilities, including a parallel humanoid‑robot pilot at its Leipzig plant in Germany.
