BMW develops new i3 electric sedan and Touring station wagon

BMW is expanding its Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the all-electric i3 sedan and a forthcoming i3 Touring station wagon. The new i3 sedan is built on a dedicated 800-volt architecture, supporting charging speeds of up to 400 kW and offering a maximum WLTP range of up to 912 km in the 50 xDrive variant.

Spy shots of the i3 Touring prototype at the Nürburgring reveal a design that closely follows the sedan but features a longer roofline, larger rear side windows, and a redesigned rear section to increase cargo capacity and rear headroom. The Touring model is expected to feature the M Sport trim with aggressive bumpers and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The i3 lineup will include models such as the 40 xDrive, which produces 374 CV from an 82.8 kWh battery, and the 50 xDrive, which produces 469 CV from a 108.7 kWh battery. Both models will utilize the BMW Panoramic iDrive infotainment system. The i3 Touring is anticipated to be unveiled between late 2026 and early 2027.
