BMW Group Australia pledges to keep wagons, convertibles and other niche models available

BMW Group Australia CEO Vikram Pawah said the company will continue offering the full range of niche body styles in the Australian market, stating there is no minimum sales threshold required to import models such as wagons and convertibles. The automaker has even expanded its wagon lineup in recent years, adding versions of the M3, M5 and i5, while still supplying low‑volume models like the 8 Series (21 deliveries) and the i5 electric sedan and wagon (9 deliveries) as of June.

Pawah noted that, unlike some competitors, BMW does not base decisions on a strict business case but on customer demand. Mercedes‑Benz has withdrawn its wagons from Australia and Audi has yet to launch new‑generation large cars, but BMW intends to maintain its broader model variety. Some European‑only variants, such as the 2 Series Active Tourer, the M340i xDrive Touring and diesel‑engine X1 models, remain unavailable locally. The 330e plug‑in hybrid was discontinued in Australia ahead of the 2024 model year, though it continues elsewhere.
