BMW Group deploys Figure 03 humanoid robots in US logistics

The BMW Group is expanding its use of humanoid robotics at its Spartanburg plant in the United States. Following a successful pilot program with the Figure 02 robot, the company is transitioning to the more advanced Figure 03 model.

In collaboration with Figure AI, the new Figure 03 robots will perform complex sequencing tasks within logistics operations. This initiative is part of BMW’s broader strategy to integrate 'Physical AI'—the combination of digital artificial intelligence with physical machinery—into its production processes.

The previous ten-month deployment of the Figure 02 robot supported the production of over 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles, primarily assisting in body shop tasks such as positioning sheet metal parts for welding. BMW officials stated that these deployments demonstrate that humanoid robots are moving beyond laboratory experiments to become functional components of a flexible manufacturing workforce.
