BMW hits two-million electric vehicle milestone
BMW has reached a milestone by delivering its two-millionth pure electric vehicle, an i5 delivered to a customer in Spain. The achievement comes amid rising demand, with electric models accounting for 28% of the brand’s European sales this year. The company reported that sales of its EVs in Europe rose by 38% during the second quarter of 2026.
To support the rollout of its next-generation Neue Klasse architecture, BMW has completed significant upgrades at its Regensburg plant in Germany. The facility has implemented a new process known as ‘Speicher-Hochzeit’ or ‘battery marriage,’ where high-voltage batteries are joined to the vehicle body at the beginning of final assembly. This overhaul included the installation of a new energy module pre-assembly line and a high-bay warehouse to facilitate the production of upcoming electric models.
