BMW i3 50L sets brand range record of 1,213 km
BMW has set a brand record for electric vehicle range with its new i3 50L model, which traveled 1,213 kilometers on a single charge during a durability test. The test covered a variety of terrains, including highways, urban areas, and rural roads. The vehicle completed the distance with approximately 1% battery remaining.
Developed specifically for the Chinese market, the i3 50L features a 113.4 kWh battery and utilizes an 800-volt electrical architecture. The model incorporates BMW’s next-generation Gen6 battery cells, which offer over 20% higher energy density than previous generations. This technology supports fast charging of up to 400 kW, allowing the vehicle to gain roughly 400 kilometers of range in 10 minutes.
Mass production of these new battery cells began on October 15 in Shenyang, China. While the vehicle's performance is notable, the specific driving conditions, speed, and external temperatures of the test were not fully disclosed. The i3 50L is expected to begin deliveries in the first quarter of 2027.
