BMW i3 recommended as reliable used electric vehicle

The BMW i3 has been highlighted as a reliable option for used electric vehicle buyers following the Auto Bild TÜV-Report 2026. The report describes the model as an “innovative electric dwarf” and suggests it is a “secret tip” due to its strong performance during mandatory vehicle inspections (Kfz-Hauptuntersuchung).

Technical aspects of the i3, such as its carbon fiber passenger cell and unique door design, contribute to its distinctive character. The vehicle's inspection results show minimal defects in critical areas, including axle suspensions, drive shafts, lighting, and brake lines.

Historically, the i3 was launched in 2013, with a significant facelift occurring in 2017/18. This update introduced a larger battery and a standard fast-charging socket. While earlier models offered a range extender version, the focus remains on the pure electric versions and the sportier i3s variant.
