BMW i3 undergoes testing and custom conversion

The BMW i3 is currently the subject of both professional development and creative DIY modification. A prototype of the upcoming BMW i3 Touring, an electric 3 Series wagon, has been spotted undergoing high-speed testing at the Nürburgring. This Neue Klasse model is expected to debut in 2027 and features the brand's redesigned kidney grille and lighting signature.

In a separate development, YouTuber and former Lockheed Martin software engineer Michael Pick has completed a custom conversion of a 2017 BMW i3 Rex into a miniature electric pickup truck. The project, which cost under $8,000, involved cutting the carbon fiber body to install a custom wooden bed with aluminum tie-down rails. The modified vehicle maintains a total range of over 340 miles by utilizing its gasoline range extender.
