BMW introduces Neue Klasse active safety features

BMW is rolling out a new suite of active safety technologies as standard across its Neue Klasse vehicle generation. The rollout begins with the 2027 BMW iX3, a new electric SUV that has already achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. These features will subsequently be integrated into other models, including the i3, X5, and 7 Series.

A central innovation is the Exit Warning system, designed to prevent “dooring” accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. Using side-mounted radar, the system monitors approaching traffic and can actively delay the electronic door latch from opening until the danger has passed. Other advanced features include emergency steering intervention to avoid obstacles while maintaining lane position, an emergency brake assistant capable of detecting wildlife, and a system to prevent unintended acceleration at low speeds.

In addition to safety, the Neue Klasse lineup is seeing significant design and interface shifts. The iX3 features a more minimalist interior, replacing many physical buttons with central touchscreen controls and advanced voice assistants. The brand is also exploring high-performance electric models, such as the M Concept with four electric motors and the luxury-oriented Vision ALPINA.
