BMW iX3 demonstrates high range and performance in Romania

The BMW iX3 has demonstrated significant range capabilities during a long-distance test in Romania. Covering approximately 800 kilometers across highways, rural roads, and mountain passes, the electric SUV completed the route without requiring additional charging or the use of energy-saving measures such as reducing speed or limiting climate control.

During the initial 350-kilometer leg, the iX3 xDrive50, equipped with a 108.7 kWh battery, maintained 40% charge. The vehicle's official WLTP range is rated up to 805 kilometers, while the EPA estimate is 698 kilometers. The testing also included performance evaluations on the Transfăgărășan mountain road.

Beyond range, the vehicle utilizes BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” system architecture. This technology consolidates the drivetrain, steering, brakes, and energy recuperation into a single controller that operates significantly faster than previous sequential architectures. This integration aims to reduce lag and improve handling precision, a feature expected to influence upcoming models like the MINI Countryman EV.
