BMW iX3 sells out while European EV prices stay high

BMW’s new electric SUV, the iX3, has become so popular that the company has already sold the entire production planned through 2026. The model is built at the Debrecen factory in Hungary, where the plant has just reached its 50,000‑vehicle milestone. The base iX3 40 delivers 315 hp and a range of up to 805 km (WLTP) thanks to an 82.6 kWh battery, while the upcoming iX3 50 xDrive will offer 462 hp and a 108.7 kWh pack.

A German study by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) finds that, although battery costs have fallen about 35 % over the past five years, average prices of comparable electric cars in Germany have only dropped 18 % and the overall advertised price of new EVs has risen from roughly €38,000 in 2020 to €54,000 in 2025. The study attributes the modest price decline to manufacturers redirecting savings into longer ranges, better equipment and research and development, while the market’s shift toward larger, more expensive models has pushed average prices upward.
