BMW launches all‑wheel‑drive M2 for New Zealand, deliveries slated for 2026

BMW announced the M2 Coupé M xDrive, the first all‑wheel‑drive version of its compact M model, for the New Zealand market. The model uses the 3.0‑litre S58 twin‑turbo inline‑six, rated at 353 kW (600 Nm), paired with an eight‑speed M Steptronic transmission and promises a 0‑100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds. Production begins at BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico in August 2026, with the first New Zealand deliveries expected before the end of 2026. The vehicle is priced at NZ$154,900, about NZ$5,000 more than the rear‑wheel‑drive version.

The M2 M xDrive introduces BMW’s new M Ignite pre‑chamber ignition system, designed to improve combustion efficiency and meet upcoming EU7 emissions standards. The system works alongside a higher compression ratio and variable‑geometry turbochargers, enhancing responsiveness and reducing turbo lag. The technology will also be rolled out to other high‑performance BMW models sold in New Zealand, such as the M3 sedan, M3 Touring and M4 Coupé.
