BMW launches first all-electric 3-Series generation

BMW has introduced the first all-electric generation of its 3-Series, marking a transition toward the Neue Klasse era. The initial model, the BMW i3 50 xDrive First Edition, features a range of up to 892 kilometers according to WLTP standards.

Built on sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the vehicle shares its powertrain with the new BMW iX3. The technical architecture utilizes four high-performance computers, referred to as ‘superbrains’, which provide more than 20 times the processing power of previous generations. One central unit, named ‘Heart of Joy’, manages the powertrain, brakes, energy recovery, and steering functions, processing information up to ten times faster than conventional control units.
