BMW launches high‑output M2 M xDrive and previews redesigned X2 M40 for 2028

BMW introduced the M2 M xDrive, a new M2 variant equipped with the brand’s M xDrive all‑wheel‑drive system. The car retains the 3.0‑litre inline‑six engine, now delivering 480 hp and 600 Nm of torque, and accelerates from 0‑100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. Priced at €90,800 – €3,000 more than the rear‑wheel‑only model – it adds about 60 kg of weight but promises superior grip in wet conditions. Drivers can switch to a 2WD mode for a traditional rear‑wheel feel.

Separately, BMW has been testing a prototype of the upcoming X2 M40, part of the company’s “Neue Klasse” design overhaul slated for 2028. Spy photos show the SUV under extreme heat, featuring a revised front grille, sharper headlights, a new lighting signature, and a fully digital 17.9‑inch cockpit display. The X2 M40 will join the X2 range with power exceeding 300 hp and a more contemporary aesthetic, aligning it with the refreshed X1 and other models under the new design language.
