BMW launches long-wheelbase iX5 SUV for Chinese market

BMW unveiled a long‑wheelbase version of its iX5 electric SUV in China, adding 130 mm to the wheelbase for a total of 3,165 mm, making it the longest‑wheelbase production SUV the brand has built.

The China‑specific model includes a 31.3‑inch 8K rear “Theatre Screen”, a new front‑passenger infotainment display, upgraded rear seats, adaptive air suspension and the latest BMW Operating System X. These features are intended to appeal to Chinese buyers as BMW seeks to reverse a sharp decline in sales since its 2021 peak.

Production is planned for early 2027, with both internal‑combustion and electric powertrains offered. Driver‑assist technologies are developed in partnership with the Chinese autonomous‑driving specialist Momenta.
