BMW M celebrates one million vehicles produced
BMW M has reached a major milestone with the production of its one-millionth high-performance vehicle, a BMW M3 finished in a special ‘Fire Orange III’ paint. The celebratory vehicle was produced at the company’s Munich plant, where the brand is currently undergoing a significant transformation.
As part of its shift toward electrification, the Munich facility is being restructured with a 650 million euro investment to produce exclusively electric vehicles starting in 2027. This site will host the production of the first fully electric BMW M3, which will utilize the Neue Klasse technology platform. Notably, the new electric M3 will drop the ‘i’ prefix traditionally used for BMW’s electric models, simply retaining the M3 name.
In parallel, BMW has commenced series production of its sixth-generation high-voltage batteries at a new one-billion euro facility in Irlbach-Straßkirchen, Bavaria. This plant, which utilizes approximately 500 robots and 1,000 employees, will supply the Munich plant with battery packs for the new BMW i3. These next-generation batteries offer increased capacity, reaching up to 108 kWh, and feature significantly reduced charging times.
