BMW M Team WRT wins first IMSA GTP race at Indianapolis

Sheldon van der Linde and Dries Vanthoor secured the first IMSA GTP victory for BMW M Team WRT at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The win marks a significant milestone for the team following its transition to managing the BMW GTP programme.

In the closing minutes of the race, van der Linde executed a decisive pass on Earl Bamber in the Cadillac #31 during a complex lapping situation at Turn 12. The #24 BMW M Hybrid V8 crossed the finish line approximately three seconds ahead of Bamber to claim the win.

The race was marked by a significant multi-car collision at the start in Turn 1, which involved several vehicles from the GTP and LMP2 classes. Despite the early chaos, the WRT crew managed to maintain a competitive pace throughout the 2-hour and 40-minute event.
