BMW recalls nearly 190,000 vehicles due to fire risk

BMW has issued a global recall for approximately 189,130 vehicles due to a fire risk caused by a faulty starter component. The issue affects certain 3 Series, 5 Series, and 7 Series models produced between July 29, 2014, and November 12, 2020.

The defect involves a starter component that lacks sufficient protection against water ingress. If moisture enters the starter relay, it can cause corrosion, leading to a short circuit and potentially a vehicle fire. No property damage or personal injuries have been reported in connection with this issue.

In Germany, the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) is monitoring the recall, which involves 5,788 vehicles. BMW will replace the starter in affected cars. Owners can check their vehicle status through BMW or an authorized dealership using KBA reference number 16791R or BMW recall codes 0012820600 and 0012840600.
