BMW Series 8 faces high depreciation and uncertain future

The BMW Series 8 faces a dual challenge of rapid market depreciation and an uncertain future due to the company’s shift toward electrification. The M8 Gran Coupé, a high-performance model featuring a 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine, has seen significant value loss. In France, models that originally cost over €170,000 are now appearing on the used market for between €90,000 and €120,000. Research suggests that approximately 54% to 55% of the vehicle's initial value can disappear within five years, a rate higher than many other luxury sedans, driven by high fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Simultaneously, the future of the Series 8 lineup appears uncertain. Production of the current generation, based on the CLAR platform, has largely concluded, with the final special editions rolling off lines in early 2026. The transition to BMW’s new 'Neue Klasse' architecture poses a hurdle, as executives have indicated that the current Series 8 architecture is incompatible with the upcoming technological shift. As of late 2025, the coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupé models had already been removed from official configurators without a direct successor being announced.
