BMW, Smart, and Tesla lead European electric vehicle reliability rankings

A study by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), surveying 3,810 drivers across ten European countries, has identified the most reliable electric vehicle (EV) brands. BMW and Smart led the reliability rankings with a score of 91 out of 100, followed by Tesla, BYD, and Dacia, which all scored 89. Other notable brands including Kia, Nissan, Renault, and MG achieved scores of 87.

While BMW and Smart were rated highest for mechanical reliability, Tesla was ranked as the brand with the highest driver satisfaction, followed by BMW and Polestar.

The report also highlights the long-term economic advantages of electric mobility. For a distance of 100,000 kilometers, an EV using home charging is estimated to cost approximately 2,700 euros in electricity, compared to roughly 12,000 euros for an equivalent gasoline vehicle. Additionally, annual maintenance for EVs is estimated at 140 euros, significantly lower than the 250 euros typical for combustion engines. However, the study notes that insurance premiums for electric vehicles can be up to 36% more expensive than for traditional models.
