BMW i4 Convertible slated for 2028 launch

BMW AG is developing an all‑electric i4 Convertible, internally codenamed NA3. The model will sit on the company’s dedicated 800‑volt Neue Klasse electric‑vehicle platform and share Gen‑6 motors and battery technology with the upcoming i3 lineup. Spy photos taken around the BMW headquarters in Munich show a prototype with a soft‑top fabric roof, a two‑plus‑two seating layout and styling that follows the Neue Klasse design language.

The i4 Convertible is expected to enter production for a 2028 launch, with a projected WLTP range of roughly 900 km on a single charge. BMW also plans an i4 Coupe, codename NA2, to use the same platform. Both models will run alongside the current gasoline‑powered 4‑Series Convertible (G23) and M4 Convertible (G83), which BMW says will continue in production until mid‑2029.

The new EV drop‑top will be one of the few fully electric convertibles on the market, joining a small handful such as the Maserati GranCabrio and MG Cyberster. It is intended to broaden BMW’s premium electric offering while retaining the brand’s characteristic performance and design cues.
